Occupy Our World Nonviolently ... continued
Like many individuals and companies, PuddleDancer Press has also been impacted by the global economic downturn. Though we would enjoy supporting all of the people who have joined the Occupy movement in each of their local communities with a gift of books, we simply cannot afford to do this.
However, what we can do is offer our friends the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to nonviolent change in their local communities by offering our books at essentially what it costs us to provide them to you.
We have revised our NVC Social Change Book Package to include the five titles that we hope offer the best support for creating effective communication and positive change at these gatherings.
The new package is on special this month at our regular monthly special discount of 40% off the retail price if you only wish to buy one or two. But for those of you who are willing to commit to support your local Occupy Movement community with these books, you may purchase these books at our at-cost-price of 65% off the retail price if you buy three or more packages.
The intent of our offer is to give those generous members of our community who have received so much from value from this work in their lives the opportunity to pay-it-forward to a cause that is important to them.
Books purchased at 65% off through this offer may not be used for strictly personal use, be resold for a profit, or be returned for credit. In fact, if you purchase books for use in this way, we request that you write BOLDLY on the back cover: "Publisher Gift — May Not Be Returned for Store Credit." We simply can't afford to have these sold at our cost and then pay for them as returns through local bookstores at full price.
Our hope is that you donate these to the official library at your local Occupy gathering, or use these to start a library if there isn't one already, or simply to pass them on to others who are willing to read them and then pass them on to others who are willing to do the same. Or, if there isn't an event in your area and you know of another organization that shares similar social transformation goals, such as the Peace Resource Center we have here in the San Diego area, you may donate them there.
If you've been watching any of the media about these events, you must have seen that the "communication" is often one-sided and filled with angry epithets and name-calling, even from many participants in the Occupy movement. The first three books in our new package are aimed at addressing these problems of basic communication in social change situations.
Creating significant changes in corporate cultures seems to be another very important topic in this conversation and so we've included two of our titles that deal specifically with this issue.
The titles included in the new NVC Social Change Book Package are:
-
The Heart of Social Change, by Marshall Rosenberg:
In this important booklet, Marshall Rosenberg outlines his modern theory of social change and restorative justice. People will learn how to create an internal consciousness of compassion as a first and important step for effective social change.
-
Nonviolent Communication: a Language of Life, by Marshall Rosenberg:
This cornerstone book provides a deep understanding of the core components of the NVC process and consciousness, with concrete examples of how to practice and apply the model.
-
Speak Peace in a World of Conflict, by Marshall Rosenberg:
With this title helps people discover how they can create an internal consciousness of peace as the first step toward effective personal, professional and social change. Includes complete chapters on conflict resolution, transforming enemy images and more.
-
The Empathy Factor, by Marie Miyashiro:
Building from the latest research in brain science, emotional intelligence, and organizational theory, this book offers both real-world insight and a practical framework to bring the transformative power of empathy to corporate culture.
-
Words That Work in Business, by Ike Lasater:
This title offers practical tools matched with recognizable work scenarios to help anyone address the most common workplace relationship challenges. It shows how just one person can positively affect work relationships and company culture.
We have an amazingly opportunity to bring the power of Nonviolent Communication to many people who share the common goal of positive social and cultural change. This special offer will last through the end of November, but there is no way of telling how long these gatherings, and the media attention they generate, will continue.
We hope that many of you will be inspired to take advantage of this offer and contribute to promoting peaceful communication for proactive change.
Keep learning these vital communication skills with these books and training resources:
